FAQ: how to get from Barcelona’s airport to the city?
Barcelona Airport: the modern Bermuda Triangle, where you or your wallet can easily be lost. Metro Line 9 Sud, l9 South

The line L9 Sud Metro connects Barcelona downtown with the airport.
The L9 Sud has stops at 15 stations until it gets to the airport terminals. The line begins at ZonaUniversitaria station and stops at:
ZonaUniversitària, Collblanc, Torrassa, Can Tries/Gornal, Europa/Fira, Fira, ParcLogístic, Mercabarna, Les Moreres, El PratEstació, Cèntric, ParcNou, MesBlau, Aeroport-T2 and Aeroport-T1.
L9 continues from ZonaUniversitaria to Can Zam, in Santa Coloma de Gramanet, with L9 Nord (North).
Metro stations at the airport
At the airport, the first stop coming from Barcelona is Aeroport-T2, and has its entrance near the train station at terminal T2.
The other stop, Aeroport-T1, is at terminal T1 and is the end and beginning of line L9 Sud. The entrance is on Level 0, close to the buses.
The estimated travel time is 32 minutes from the ZonaUniversitaria station to the last stop at T1; commercial speed of the train is 37 km per hour.
The frequency of passing trains is every 7 minutes or so, but it can be reduced to every 4 minutes in specific occasions that generate high demand.
Tickets and transport tickets to the airport
- Airport Ticket from TMB:
Ticket valid for a single trip to the airport from any network station or subway to get from the airport to any metro station Barcelona.
Airport fare: € 4.50€. - Other tickets valid for travel to the airport in the TMB tickets are:
T-Dia, T-12, Targeta Rosa, T-4, T-Mes, T-Jove, T-quarter, T-50/30, T-70/30, T-FM / FN 70/90, Passing metropolitan companion, Passing pensioner FGC and BCN card Hello! 2, 3, 4 or 5 days.
Not valid nor Single Ticket nor the T-10 card. To leave the station Aeroport T1 or Aeroport T2 you must validate the ticket in the machines. If you arrive to airport stations with invalid tickets you will have to purchase an airport ticket in order to get out of Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2 stations.
Service hours
Airport stations open and close in the same time scheme as the other stations on the Metro.
- Mondays to Thursdays: 05:00 to 00:00 (midnight).
- Fridays: 05:00 to 02:00.
- Saturdays: from 05:00 and continuous operation overnight.
- Sundays: until 24.00 h.
- Weekday holidays: 5.00 to 24.00.
- December 24: closed at 23.00.
Line L9 sections
The L9 of Metro has been divided into two parts. The journey from Santa Coloma to La Sagrera L9 adopts the name of Nord, and L9 Sud stretch connecting stop ZonaUniversitària and get to the airport. Stations Camp Nou,La Ribera and terminal AeroportCarrega enter service in later phases.

Train timetable to Barcelona Airport
R2 train line is currently the only line that arrives at the airport from Barcelona or other cities from Catalunya.
Travellers from Maçanet-Massanes station have a direct train to the airport, with no transfers.
But those passengers coming from Estación de Francia (Estació de França) should use R2 Sud line (south) trains to go to any stations of Passeig de Gràcia, Barcelona Sants or el Prat de Llobregat, and there transfer to the new train destination “Aeroport” (means airport).

Airport train station
Outside Terminal T2.
Airport train station is located 200 mts outside Terminal T2 (Rodalies de CatalunyaRenfe trains). Both infrastructures are connected by a covered footbridge. This footbridge has a section of elevators and escalators in the nearest favoring the access to people with reduced mobility or or passengers with lots of luggage.

Buses to and from airport

This is a complete guide of the local transportation in bus from the city and its metropolitan area to Barcelona Airport. They are urban buses from the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, linking the airport with different parts of the city -including center city, and nearby towns.

Regular buses lines TMB
They are encompassed within the Barcelona Metropolitan Transport network (TMB) and are an cheap and poular way of transport.
You can pay cash or use a transportation card integrated TMB, which allow travel in more than one mode of transportation, such as bus and subway, or train and bus, in a specific time frame.
The T-10 is a transferable travel card with 10 trips. It is sold at newsagents and tobacconists, intercity bus stations and Servicaixa ATMs; and it allows the user to scroll through several points of the metropolitan area of Barcelona. The price of a T-10 for 1 zone is €9,95.
Leaving the T2 terminal building and across the street to the parking entrance of the terminal T2, there is a small tobacconist where you can purchase a T-10 (10 trips).
These buses:
Connect the airport with large populations of the metropolitan network and their price is common in all the metropolitan area network.
They make stops along its route, passing through several villages.
They are equipped with ramps for disabled people.
They do not have luggage racks.
They are subject to long distance traffic are not to be rushed.
Metropolitan buses
The following buses to Barcelona Airport from the south and west metropolitan area: Gavà, Viladencans, Castelldefels (south) and Sant Joan Despí (west).
Express Lines: Aerobús A1 and Aerobús A2
The Aerobus is an express bus line that made the journey from downtown Barcelona (PlaçaCatalunya) to Barcelona El Prat Airport. The Aerobus A1 goes to terminal T1 and the Aerobus A2 to T2 terminal. This express line made some stops by the city of Barcelona, but not in other populations.
In the grounds of the airport, the Aerobus A1 has a stop at the terminal T1 and the Aerobus A2 has three stops in the terminal T2 (T2A, T2B and T2C), although the terminal T2A is temporarily cancelled by works.
The Airbus is low-floor (level-boarding) bus and it’s equiped with retractable boarding ramps facilitating access to wheelchair users and trunks.
It is an express line -faster- and high-frequency bus.
The return ticket is valid up to nine days after the first validity date.
You will be able to buy the ticket in the same bus (in cash) or in the airport vending machines with VISA credit cards or Euro 6000 Card.
When waiting at a stop that is served by more than one route, signal to the driver that you want her/his bus by raising an arm without waving.
Aerobús is more expensive compared to other bus services. Their price is € 5.90 one way and €10.20round trip, being the valid return in the 15 days from the purchase date.

The Mohn SL company N17 night buses do a long tour of Barcelona, with 13 stops, starting Ronda Universitat – Pl. Catalunya and through l’Hospitalet de Llobregat (8 stops) – andElPrat(11 stops);until arriving at Barcelona airport with three stops: Aeropuerto Terminal T1 departure hall, Aeropuerto Sir shuttle Corridor Barcelona-Madrid and Terminal T1 Aeropuerto.

Line N16 (night bus)
Another night bus service from Mohn, SL company is the N16 line, which runs from Barcelona to Castelldefels. This journey takes 4 stops at the airport in three different sites of the terminal T2.
Stops on the airport area are in the same direction for both paths, so you must look the indicative bus screen which one is the end of route: Barcelona or Castelldefels:
